Manipuri Classical Dance
Rigorous training in the foundations of Manipuri classical dance, posture, rhythm, the devotional narrative tradition, and stagecraft, for students of every age and ability, in the guru-shishya tradition.
Sanjib teaches classes online and in person, leads lecture-demonstrations, and holds visiting lectureships and residencies at universities.
“Every student is a promise the guru makes to the future.”
Over four decades and more than 25,000 students, Sanjib teaches in the guru-shishya tradition, the discipline of rhythm, the precision of gesture, and the devotional narrative at the heart of the form. Across the San Ramon, Fremont, and San Jose studios and online: Manipuri classical dance, contemporary movement, the pung, and the Dance Sutra wellness programme, for every age and ability.

Where classical vocabulary meets contemporary expression, building on the cross-cultural collaborative work Sanjib has created across four continents. For dancers ready to extend tradition into new forms.
Learn the pung, the heartbeat of Manipuri performance, from its foundational rhythms (taal) to the dynamic drum-dance of the Pung Cholom tradition.
Sanjib’s signature movement-and-wellness program, drawing on decades of practice and his work with seniors and community groups, to build strength, balance, and calm through joyful, accessible movement. No experience required.
Part performance, part teaching: Sanjib's lecture-demonstrations open Manipuri dance to audiences who are meeting it for the first time, tracing its Vaishnavite roots, demonstrating lasya and tandava, and inviting questions.
Designed for schools, universities, and festival programmes, and scaled to the room, from a classroom to a main stage.
Sanjib has served as a visiting artist, lecturer, and choreographer at universities including UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, San José State, Duquesne, Hunter College, the University of Pittsburgh, and UNC Charlotte.
He welcomes visiting lectureships, artist residencies, and collaborations within South Asian studies and performance research.
